EUREOS library Objectives

Objectives

General objective

To provide updated knowledge and a critical review of different controversial aspects of eosinophilic esophagitis.

The contents have been prepared based on the best evidence by expert authors, who will review novel aspects of EoE. Critical reviews of the effect of topical corticosteroids will be carried out for EoE treatment beyond the remission of inflammatory activity. The atopic nature of EoE will be critically discussed, trying to elucidate whether the disease can be considered an isolated inflammatory entity, or a local manifestation of a systemic disorder. Finally, new entities related to EOE will be critically visited.

Specific objectives

1.- To describe the evolving landscape or topical corticosteroids in the treatment of patients with EoE.

2.- To understand the particularities of the esophagus for the topical administration of medication to treat inflammation in the organ.

3.- To recognize the most important endpoints in long term treatment of EoE and how topical corticosteroid influence on long term goals for patients.

4.- To present novel developments to improve topical therapy of EoE based in corticosteroids.

5.- To understand the common pathophysiological aspects of EoE with other type-2 inflammatory diseases.

6.- To discuss evidences to consider EoE as a late manifestation of the atopic march, and a late-stage component in a larger inflammatory process.

7.- To identify disease particularities that define EoE as an organ-centered disturbance, not necessarily integrated within a larger syndrome.

8.- To present on novel EoE-related conditions and their potential to evolve to EoE.

9.- To understand the presentation of asymptomatic patients with esophageal eosinophilia and potential progression to EoE.

10.- To discuss recent evidence showing EoE as a phenotypically complex entity with differential presentations and risks for progression.

11.- To discuss on the EoE-like syndrome and its progression to EoE over time from a critical point or view.
