CLINICAL AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS IN EoE: The EUREOS Scientific Symposium 2022

General objective

To provide up-to-date knowledge and critical discussion on cutting-edge aspects of eosinophilic esophagitis based on best evidences, including its growing epidemiology and potential reasons behind, the evidence on the efficacy and indication of maintenance therapy, and advanced therapies under investigation for the treatment of these patients.

Specific objectives

To know the current epidemiological characteristics of eosinophilic esophagitis, including its incidence, prevalence and temporal trends.

To identify the known risk factors for the development of EoE and the interaction between atopy, genes and the environment in its origin.

To discuss potential causes for the increase in EoE in industrialized countries and trends in emerging countries

To review the evidence on the natural history of the disease and its tendency to become chronic.

To learn about the effectiveness of the different therapies for the maintenance of remission in patients with EoE.

To Know the rates of abandonment of treatment and the risk factors for it

To discuss the need for universal maintenance therapy, based on the best available evidence.

To present the concept of EoE phenotypes and their potential value in predicting clinical course and therapeutic needs

To identify reasons for treating EoE patients and unmet needs

To identify new therapeutic targets for EoE

To present advanced drugs in development for EoE, including biologics and small molecules

To discuss the profile of patients who could be best candidates for these new therapies
